BEN LOMOND WATERFALLS May 24th 2005 24 photos
Since we have had a very wet spring this year, I noticed that there are many waterfalls on the surrounding mountains that I don't see most years. I took some photos of the falls with my big telephoto lens and was thinking how nice it would be to hike up closer to them for a better look. The ones I was most interested in were high up on the front of Ben Lomond. One set of falls looked like they were coming out of caves or holes in the mountain side. Roy, one of my neighbors, said we should try hiking up there, and we left about 20 minutes later. It was a long tough hike. Very steep and much of it on frozen snow, or should I say ice? Somewhere in-between I guess. The snow that filled the canyons was undercut by a stream tunneling beneath it, so we had to be careful not to break through and fall in.
We parked the car up at the northeast end of North Ogden and walked up the powerline road which took us to the main canyon below the peak. I took some long range photos of the area and marked them with a red trail for where I went and in orange when Roy went a different way.
